So you’re an international Uni Student situated in Brisbane and you’re looking for some cheap, affordable and free things to do – cause we all know how hard money is to come by during these times! Have no fear, we’ve got you covered!

1. Brisbane Botanic Gardens

Situated in Mt. Coot-tha, the botanical gardens have different displays of plants, trees, herbs, and flowers! You may even be lucky to see some critters in their natural habitat. Pack a picnic and take a free-guided tour or explore the gardens yourself!

2. Mount Coot-tha Lookout Point

After the gardens head on over the lookout point about 5 mins away and check out the Brisbane landscape at the highest point! If you’re feeling hungry, there is a café and a restaurant up there too!

3. Southbank

Take a walk or bike around Southbank and discover that it is a cultural hub surrounded by so many eateries, guided paths and breath-taking views of the city and the river.

4. Eat Street Markets

Held throughout the year on Friday and Saturday nights these markets are definitely worth checking out. With cheap entry, entertainment, great dishes and bevvies from different cultures – it’s a great place to just chill and relax.

5. Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

What’s Oz without Koalas and Kangaroos?! Lone Pine puts on great shows throughout the day like a sheep dog show, sheep sheering, bird show and platypus feeding. You get a chance to meet a variety of animals and even personally feed the kangaroos!

6. Queensland Gallery of Modern Art & Queensland museum

General entry is free to some exhibits! See some wonderful artwork and history.

7. Queen Street Mall

There are a wonderful variety of shops in Queen Street Mall. It is a pedestrian mall that is huge! It would take a few hours to explore the entire place as it is always packed with restaurants, events and people!

8. Rocklea Weekend Markets

Fancy some fresh and cheap food? On Saturday mornings head on over to discover various fruit, vegetable, seafood and meat stalls! Then on Sundays you can look around for some affordable items ranging from clothing, art and knick-knacks. You can even get a haircut, your eyebrows threaded and have some brunch on both days.

9. Kangaroo Point Cliffs

Come here to see a scenic night view of the CBD, have a picnic or a BBQ or just for a simple stroll. If you are up for an adventure (moolah is involved) you can check out Riverlife for a different experience where you can cycle, kayak, rock climb, paddleboard and abseil (rappel).

10. Daisy Hill Forest

Another awesome picnic and BBQ spot! Come here for a relaxing day of hiking and to get away from the city vibes. You can visit the Daisy Hill Koala Centre to learn more about these furry friends. And while walking around you may be lucky to see a kangaroo or two.
