The next generation of rechargeable lithium batteries set to disrupt the electric vehicle industry may soon be here, thanks to the humble salt bath.

CSIRO scientists, in collaboration with RMIT University and QUT, have demonstrated that pre-treating a battery’s lithium metal electrodes with an electrolyte salt solution extends the battery life and increases performance and safety.

The research, “Stabilizing lithium metal using ionic liquids for long-lived batteries”, was published recently in Nature Communications.

Iconic French design and retail company Daniel Hechter has introduced an annual scholarship for an outstanding RMIT fashion student.

 

The scholarship, awarded through Daniel Hechter’s Australian licensee Expedition Apparel, is offered to the top second year student from one of the University’s internationally-recognised fashion programs, the Associate Degree in Fashion Design and Technology.

RMIT graduate Talisa Trantino will launch her design career on the world stage after being awarded Australia’s top fashion scholarship.
