Business, Engineering, Law and Technology Points Up at IT Carlow

Following publication of first-round offers from the CAO, places for courses at Institute of Technology Carlow is in keeping with the national trend with a jump in points for courses in engineering, business and law.

“We’ve seen an increased interest in courses linked to the economic recovery”, commented David Denieffe, Registrar, Institute of Technology Carlow. “Engineering, business and law have all seen points increases. We’re very much in keeping with the national trend this morning that is seeing students opting for courses where a jobs growth is anticipated”.

Engineering at Institute of Technology Carlow has seen a surge with aeronautical, civil and mechanical engineering and architectural technology courses jumping significantly – in some cases by 15 points. Aeronautical Engineering has jumped from 380 to 395 points.

There are point increases too in Accounting, up 22 points to 317. Law is up 10 points to 300 while Business with Law is up five points to 290.

The Institute’s recently launch Bachelor of Science in Cybercrime and IT Security comes in at 315 points. The new degree course in Sustainable Farm Management & Agribusiness, based at the Wexford campus, is 320 points.

“While Arts has seen a big drop nationally, traditional career choices such as Early Childhood Education & Care, in our Wexford campus, is up five points. Visual Communication & Design is up 15 points and, in this Olympic year, our degree course in Strength & Conditioning is up 10 points to 400”, added Mr. Denieffe.

A record 52,289 offers are being made by the CAO today. Institute of Technology Carlow is expecting an influx of 1,300 first-year students in September and has some 7,000 learners.
