Macquarie University Psychology School Overview

This degree is the professional training course for those who want to practice as clinical psychologists. It equips you to become a high calibre practitioner who is well grounded in theory and practice, and capable of moving across a range of clinically oriented areas.

This course offers a variety of subjects including psychopathology, cognitive behaviour therapy, and clinical psychopharmacology. It ensures you become capable of working in a variety of clinically oriented areas and assuming full independent professional responsibility through supervised practical placements. It gives you access to the Macquarie University Psychology Clinic as well as other research and training facilities including the Centre for Emotional Health Clinic.

Entry Requirements

  • Recent APAC accredited Australian level 8 qualification in psychology (with first class or second class honours division one) or recognized equivalent 
  • Eligibility for provisional or full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia 
  • Applications for this program are competitive. Satisfying the admission criteria does not guarantee a place in the program

Under the Australian National Law, students must obtain provisional registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia before they commence their program of study, and for the duration of the program. In the event that the Registration Board refuses an application for provisional registration, the offer of candidature in the program will be rescinded – it is not possible to complete the program without holding provisional registration as a psychologist.

The Macquarie University Master of Clinical Psychology course has been designed to be consistent with the requirements for associate membership of the Australian Psychological Society College of Clinical Psychologists, which is the benchmark for professional clinical psychology practice in Australia.

The The Macquarie University Master of Clinical Psychology degree is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council and approved by the College of Clinical Psychologists. Completion of the Master of Clinical Psychology leads to registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia and endorsement as a clinical psychologist in Australia.
