Curtin University Psychology School Overview

This course will provide you with advanced training in either clinical or counselling psychology up to the sixth year level through a combination of coursework, practical placements and research.

This major will provide you with the knowledge, skills and experience you need to practise as a clinical psychologist in both the mental and physical health domains. You will train in the application of psychological science to the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of physical and mental health problems. Much of your studies will focus on community-based interventions.

Entry Requirements

To qualify for admission, applicants must have completed a four year Bachelor of Psychology or equivalent, approved by the Australian Psychological Society (APS)

Under the Australian National Law, students must obtain provisional registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia before they commence their program of study, and for the duration of the program. In the event that the Registration Board refuses an application for provisional registration, the offer of candidature in the program will be rescinded – it is not possible to complete the program without holding provisional registration as a psychologist.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this course are eligible to register as psychologists and commence supervision to apply for endorsement as clinical psychologists or counselling psychologists with the Psychology Board of Australia.

Professional Recognition in Canada

Curtin University researchers have found children who spend a lot of time watching television, have poorer and weaker bones in young adulthood which could significantly impact their health in later life.
