The QS World University Rankings by Subject highlights the world’s top universities in a range of popular subject areas, covering 42 subjects as of 2016. Published annually since 2011, the rankings are based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact.

Macquarie University is rated 5 stars by QS and awarded the maximum 5 stars in all eight major categories. The university is home to 38,000 students from 114 countries.

Macquarie’s parkland campus is in Sydney’s technology precinct, connected to the city via a new University train station.  Facilities include a large fitness and aquatic centre and multicultural eateries.

Macquarie recently established the Australian School of Advanced Medicine, moved into high tech engineering, highlighted areas of research excellence (COREs) and has doctoral research partnerships with 51 universities.  Macquarie University is ranked fourth in Australia for research of the highest possible quality. In addition, the most recent Australian Government Excellence in Research for Australia evaluation awarded Macquarie the maximum five-star rating for three scientific disciplines, with 85% of research activity rated as performing at world standard or higher.

Macquarie University now features amongst the world’s elite institutions in 21 of the 42 subjects featured in this year’s QS World University Rankings by Subject. Nine of these subject areas at Macquarie were considered to be in the world’s top 100:
