University of Canberra Bachelor of Physiotherapy Overview

This is a four year degree suitable for students wishing to enter the physiotherapy profession. It incorporates lectures, practical and tutorial sessions, and a physiotherapy-specific work experience component, known as work integrated learning. Classes include the foundational knowledge and skills in anatomy, human physiology and psychology, and progress to apply this to the understanding, clinical reasoning, treatment and evaluation skills that a physiotherapist requires.

This course was developed in consultation with the Australian Physiotherapy Council. Pending accreditation of the program, graduates will be eligible for registration as a physiotherapist.

The curriculum is evidence based and research led. The Bachelor of Physiotherapy is available with an integrated honours program, which provides research opportunities for those wishing to develop their research and enquiry skills.

Clinical Work Experience

Professional experience will be gained in public hospitals, community centres and private practices in the ACT, its surrounding region and throughout Australia. Clinical experience is developed in the core areas of musculoskeletal, neurological and cardiorespiratory physiotherapy. Placements may also be taken in our own Faculty of Health student led clinics.

Entry Requirements

Completed high school diploma carrying competitive grades. Applicants must have mathematics and either biology or human movement, and physics or chemistry.

Professional Recognition

The University of Canberra’s Master of Physiotherapy course has been accredited by the Australian Physiotherapy Council. Graduates of University of Canberra’s Master of Physiotherapy are eligible for registration as a Physiotherapist by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

Graduates applying to licensing in Canada, UK or the USA will be required to provide details of their program of studies to the relevant bodies and sit a licensing examination.

Students wishing to license as a physiotherapist in Canada should contact the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy for procedures and accreditation procedures. The CAP is the national federation of provincial/territorial regulators in Canada.
