Overview

Physiotherapists play an integral role in the rehabilitation of patients after illness and injury. From international sports organizations to hospitals and local community practice, physiotherapists provide treatment and advice to restore physical function and well-being. ACU’s cutting edge curriculum, state of the art equipment and laboratory settings equip our physiotherapy students with the knowledge and skills to become leaders in the field of physiotherapy.

What the course involves:

This undergraduate degree will prepare students for a career in physiotherapy through a combination of theoretical and practical/clinical subjects. Throughout the course, students will undertake practicals in ACU’s state-of-the-art Anatomy and Physiotherapy laboratories utilizing the most up to date equipment and learning resources.

Study includes functional anatomy, the structure, function and dysfunction of the human body, psychology and sociology. This theoretical knowledge is important for understanding health and well-being.

Students apply foundation knowledge to a range of clinical science subjects encompassing musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory and neurological physiotherapy.

Entry Requirements

High School diploma – min 60% in Year 12

Want Grade 12 English and One subject of Biology, Chemistry or Physics

Clinical Work Experience

Clinical placements will allow students to use their knowledge of practical skills and apply them to the everyday needs of individuals in hospitals, private practice, nursing homes, and rehabilitation units. These commence in the first semester.

Professional Recognition

Professional Recognition

ACU is currently seeking accreditation of its Bachelor of Physiotherapy with Australian Physiotherapy Council. Graduates will be eligible for registration with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia, under the auspices of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Graduates will also be eligible for membership of the Australian Physiotherapy Association.

Students wishing to license as a physiotherapist in Canada should contact the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy for procedures and accreditation procedures. The CAP is the national federation of provincial/territorial regulators in Canada.
