Mid-Term Break Camping Trip

The mid-semester break is always one I look forward to. Around this time every year, the weekdays seem to get longer and longer, and the weekends seem to get shorter and shorter. It’s a dreaded, but inevitable feeling of being three-quarters of the way through the school year- so close, but still so far. I think that’s what makes the September mid-semester break the most rewarding. It’s a great chance to freshen up and get a quick break away from coursework before the final exams right around the corner!

Being a two-week break, I spent the first week on a combination of “studying” and Netflix- although the proportion of time spent doing each will not be disclosed. The second week was the fun part! I went along with a couple friends in dentistry to a camping trip to Deep Creek Conservation Park out by the southern coast of Australia.

Only a short 2-hour drive away, we stayed at Tapanappa campground in the conservation park for 3 days and 2 nights. From the campground, there were many trails right along the coastline to explore. The first day was spent exploring the area and setting up the campsite. On the second day, we completed a 10.1km hike and it was one of the most scenic and relaxing hikes I’ve ever been on! With a cool breeze all day long, the 38ºC heat didn’t feel a notch over 25! It was the perfect weather for both hiking and taking in the scenery. At about the halfway point of the hike, there was a gorgeous natural waterfall with a swimming hole and this made for a great lunch spot in the shade. After the long hike, we settled in for a well-deserved barbeque cookout with the full lineup of sausages, chicken wings, hot dogs, burgers, and meat skewers!

The September midterm break is always a much-needed one, and I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it than some relaxing scenery and good weather. This short excursion was exactly what I needed to refresh and prepare for upcoming exams and I would surely go back again!
