Macquarie logo 2009As it counts down the days until its 50th birthday, Macquarie University has learned it has once more moved up the list of the Top 100 Universities Under 50 rankings according to the UK’s Times Higher Education.

Macquarie moved up two places on its 2013 ranking to equal 34th position in the world, shared with the University of Bath, based on an increase in its score for Teaching, International Outlook, and Industry Income.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor David Wilkinson said Macquarie viewed the various international ranking systems as road signs rather than as destinations but that the move up was nonetheless pleasing.Macquarie - beautiful campus

“As we celebrate our 50th year, it’s great that our promise and potential is already being recognised around the world,” he said. “Macquarie University has a truly remarkable story of achievement in only a short space of time, and it’s exciting to think what the next 50 years will hold for our staff, students, alumni, partners and community.”

Phil Baty, editor of the Times Higher Education Rankings said:

“The Times Higher Education 100 Under 50 is a hotlist of the world’s most dynamic and exciting young universities. The list contains many global superstars, including some of the most exceptional and well-funded East Asian institutions, so to make it into the top 100 is a significant achievement in itself. I would like to congratulate Macquarie University on its impressive performance this year, further strengthening its position amongst this world elite.”
