Deakin University sport management program in world’s top 10

Deakin UniversityDeakin University’s Master of Business (Sport Management) has been ranked in the word’s top 10, for the second year running.

The program, run by the Deakin Business School, has been ranked seventh globally in SportBusiness International’s Postgraduate Sports Rankings, up from ninth in 2015 and the only Australian university in the top 25.

Professor David Shilbury, Chair in Sport Management, says this achievement confirms Deakin’s position as Australia’s number one university for sport management.

“It’s a fantastic result. The fact that we are also ranked fifth for graduate salaries and in the top five courses in the world in the ‘Course Leaders’ Choice’ category, reinforces that we produce some of the best and brightest sport minds right here at DBS,” Professor Shilbury said.

With over 11 million people participating in sports each year, Australia has one of the strongest sporting sectors in the world. And, underpinning this multi-billion dollar industry are the business professionals who provide direction and leadership to sporting organisations across the country.

Professor Shilbury said that there are significant opportunities for those who acquire professional expertise in managing this growing industry.

“Beyond the obvious positives of holding such an important ranking, this international recognition also reinforces that we reach our goals in equipping students with the education they need to be competitive and successful throughout their careers,” he said.

“It is also testament to the hard work and commitment of our staff, students, industry advisory boards and academic leaders.”

Now in their fifth year, the annual SBI Postgraduate Sports Rankings grade the quality of postgraduate sport management courses around the world. To determine rankings, alumni of entered institutions are surveyed on topics including employment opportunities and quality of teaching.
