In honour of National Speech & Hearing Awareness month, KOM wants to highlight Flinders University and the Master of Speech Pathology program.

Flinders University is just one of six Australian universities that offer Australian Speech Pathology programs in Australia.

The Master of Speech Pathology program at Flinders University starts in February and is two years in length. The application deadline for the February 2014 intake is June 30, 2013.

Why study Speech Pathology at Flinders?

The Departments of Speech Pathology and Audiology of Flinders University and Flinders Medical Centre have amalgamated to provide clinical services, teaching and research. This is unique in Australia and allows us to provide students with an outstanding learning environment. Students are able to visit patients in the medical wards, as well as participate in many of the services offered by the hospital.

The Master of Speech Pathology program course involves an innovative, enquiry based curriculum, incorporating a PBL (Problem Based Learning) format. Learning experiences will be accessible both on and off campus, providing opportunities to integrate theory with clinical practice.  Students will undertake a number of clinical placements across the course which will ensure they reach the competencies required to practise in Australia and many other countries in the world. These will be offered in metropolitan Adelaide as well as rural and remote areas, including Darwin and Alice Springs with the possibility of international placements.

Admission requirements:

The Master in Speech Pathology accepts a cohort of up to 24 students per annum.

Applicants normally must hold at least an undergraduate degree from a recognised higher education institution, and typically have achieved a minimum of a credit average. There is no preferred undergraduate degree for admission.

All ranked applicants will be required to participate in an interview as part of the application process. Phone interviews will be available for applicants who are offshore.

Accreditation of the Master of Speech Pathology:

Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) is the professional accrediting body for all speech pathology programs in Australian universities. The Master of Speech Pathology program is officially accredited by Speech Pathology Australia.
