Broughty Ferry is a pleasant suburb four miles east of Dundee with a good selection of pubs and restaurants.

Comprising an eclectic mix of big villas built by jute barons up the hillside and small fishermen’s cottages along the shoreline, ‘The Ferry’, as its known, has experienced a recent resurgence and is now a popular and relaxing spot with some good restaurants and pubs that get particularly busy on summer evenings.

The striking Broughty Castle and Museum, right by the seashore is well worth a visit. Built in the 15th century to protect the estuary, its four floors now house local-history exhibits, covering the story of Broughty Ferry as a fishing village and the history of whaling, as well as details of local geology and wildlife.

Angus and Dundee Walks

Scottish Highlands
Scottish Highlands

Angus and Dundee provide a gradual transition from the Lowlands to the Highlands. Much of Angus is taken up by the fertile farmland, famous for fruit-growing and for Aberdeen Angus cattle, on either side of the brief upland of the Sidlaw Hills, beloved of Dundee folk. The attractive old country towns serving this area include Forfar, Brechin and Kirriemuir. To the east is an interesting coastline, ranging from the famous links at Carnoustie, through the fishing town of Arbroath – famous for its smokies – and on up to Montrose, between the North Sea and its tidal basin.

Eat Drink and Shop

Eating, drinking, shopping. A big part of the experience of visiting a new area. Dundee now boasts an eclectic mix of bars, cafés, restaurants and individual shops as well as The Overgate and Wellgate Shopping Centres. From the intimate to the formal, relaxed to funky, the city caters for all tastes.
