The MSc in Physiotherapy course at Robert Gordon University is the only Physical Therapy programme outside North America which is accredited by CAPTE.  Therefore, each year they welcome a number of students from the United States and Canada as well as students from other countries who wish to practice in the USA to this course. Makes things a little easier for you, doesn’t it!? There is also a BSc in Physiotherapy at RGU, with an option to study abroad and experience studying physiotherapy in yet another country. Both the BSc and MSc have placements included in the program. This allows you to bring your experiences back into the University and enhances your learning. You will complete placements in a range of clinical areas across Scotland, under the close supervision of experienced physiotherapists. You will also have the support of University tutors who will visit you at least once during each of your placements.

The course will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to practice physiotherapy via an accelerated programme which builds on prior learning and experience. It is a two year course with an exciting and varied mix of academic and clinical learning. I was lucky enough to get a tour around the facilities and I was SO IMPRESSED!!!!! Here’s what I saw….

This man is known as Medi Man, he is operated by your lectures to react in as many different human like ways as possible (he can even cry). You’re put to the test to react and diagnose your patient in many different scenarios, just like in a hospital situation you’re given a background summary on the patient as to why he’s there, the session is recorded and your lecturer can talk you through whats happening if needed. As its recorded you can watch it back and learn from what just happened.

The ward area and community setting are used by all the students in the Faculty to practice their skills before they go to clinical placement. The two 6 bedded wards are modelled on a real ward and provide the student with a safe and realistic environment to practise and gain confidence in their skills. These are nurses and physiotherapy students sitting with an elderly man from the community who they treat and help throughout their program. Notice nurses (&midwifes) and physiotherapists work quite close together throughout their program

The above three images are of the home setting room at RGU. The Home setting includes a living room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. Students can practise their clinical skills in a home environment to prepare them for looking after patients in the community.
