New Courses for September 2015

Robert Gordon University have just announced a number of new full time on campus courses for September 2015.

The Masters in Subsea Engineering is aimed at engineers who already have some relevant offshore oil and gas experience and high calibre graduates who wish to enhance their employability in the subsea industry.

A broad range of topics is covered including well engineering and topside processing facilities as well as the core areas of subsea engineering including: subsea systems, subsea control, pipelines & risers, corrosion and subsea reliability. Current and emerging technologies and their design limitations as applied to deepwater, long tie-back and HP/HT wells are also covered.

This subsea engineering course has been developed and is supported by experienced oil and gas industry professionals and academics using current standards and fundamental engineering practices.

In addition Aberdeen Business School are offering two new finance courses. Both courses are due to be validated by the end of March and therefore applications can be made end of March.

The MSc Accounting & Finance has been recently updated to provide enhanced focus on theoretical and practical accounting and finance skills.

The course is a conversion Master’s course for graduates who have completed a first degree in any field of study and who now wish to develop a career in accounting. It aims to produce independent thinkers who are able to deal with the complexity of the accounting and finance challenges facing organisations, either domestically or internationally.

This Masters in Accounting and Finance will provide you with the knowledge, skills and independent thinking abilities which are essential for developing a career in the accounting sector, within banking and financial institutions, or in the field of corporate finance. Given the nature of modern business, this MSc may also be useful to graduates seeking to develop a career in general management or management consultancy.

It is studied full-time over one year and offers the potential for exemptions from some examination papers of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants ACCA.

The MSc Oil and Gas Finance course is a one year postgraduate course designed to offer advanced study of finance in relation to oil and gas projects and ventures.

With growing demand for energy and a challenging external financial environment, the course responds to the need for specialist finance professionals versed in financial decision making in the petroleum industry. Building on RGU’s expertise in oil and gas and close association with the industry in Aberdeen (including a new Oil and Gas Institute), the course is intended to provide students with the opportunity to develop the relevant knowledge and skills to engage with the industry’s complex finance issues.

It emphasizes practical problem-solving, analytical financial modelling and essential transferable skills in researching, quantifying, evaluating and managing the financial risks and rewards of oil and gas investments. The course is a useful preparation for a career in the oil and gas industry and related roles in energy and financial markets.
