Overview

The Macquarie Physiotherapy program is an extended masters level, professional entry degree and will produce graduates with advanced clinical decision-making abilities. You will learn the skills of the physiotherapist based on the best available evidence to effectively assess, diagnose, treat and educate people across all ages with disorders of movement resulting from a range of conditions.

Clinical Work Experience

Ensures you complete a combination of coursework and supervised clinical placements; and undertake 150 days of clinical practice.

Entry Requirements

Successful completion of a Bachelor of Exercise Science from Griffith University, or equivalent degree from recognized institution, meeting the following minimum academic entry criteria: *Canada: completed undergraduate degree in Kinesiology, Human Kinetics or other relevant Health Science area.

  • Applicants need recent successful completion of at least one tertiary unit in each of the following areas:
    • Human anatomy (musculoskeletal and system)
    • Human physiology (cell and system)
    • Psychology
    • Research methods
  • The following tertiary level units are desired knowledge areas: biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor learning and performance, neuroscience, pathophysiology, pharmacology.

Professional Recognition

Graduates applying to licensing in Canada, UK or the USA will be required to provide details of their program of studies to the relevant bodies and sit a licensing examination.

Students wishing to license as a physiotherapist in Canada should contact the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy for procedures and accreditation procedures. The CAP is the national federation of provincial/territorial regulators in Canada.
