Overview

The Master of Physiotherapy program at Flinders University in Adelaide, Australia was launched in February 2012, and is a two year post-graduate degree leading to professional registration as a Physiotherapist in Australia. Along with Flinder’s health service and private practice partners, Flinder’s look forward to our graduates making a difference in the lives of patients in Adelaide, rural South Australia, the Northern Territory and beyond.

The Discipline of Physiotherapy is part of our inter-professional School of Medicine within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. Our School has an international reputation for integration and innovation in patient care, education and research.

Flinders University Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences has recruited outstanding Physiotherapy educators from around the world to augment the expertise within this multi-disciplinary cluster so that together we can answer questions that matter in health service delivery, translate evidence into team practice, and create a physiotherapy course that will have the world watching.

Clinical Work Experience

The Graduate entry Physiotherapy students at Flinders University in Australia are well prepared for clinical placements through their learning, which includes interprofessional practice, and complying with mandatory prerequisites such as working with children, health checks and OH&S. Students undertake six clinical placements linked to specific topics in the course over the two year duration of the Masters program.

Entry Requirements

Flinder’s Master of Physiotherapy applicants must normally hold an approved degree with a GPA of no less than 5.0, or an equivalent qualification; and have either completed the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Principles of Physiotherapy) at Flinders University OR have demonstrated that they have completed the following prerequisite topics:

  • the equivalent of 9 units of human physiology, including detailed exercise physiology
  • the equivalent of 9 units of anatomy, including detailed musculoskeletal anatomy
  • the equivalent of 4.5 units of study focused on an understanding of the human and social environment and social perspectives in health such as psychology and sociology
  • the equivalent of 4.5 units study of research methods
  • the equivalent of 4.5 units of study in communication skills

Professional Recognition

Professional Recognition

The Master of Physiotherapy program at Flinders University is accredited with conditions by the Australian Physiotherapy Council and satisfies the academic requirements for registration as a physiotherapist with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia.

Flinder’s Physiotherapy School graduates wishing to license as a physiotherapist in Canada should contact the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy for procedures and accreditation procedures. The CAP is the national federation of provincial/territorial regulators in Canada.
