In the Bachelor of Computer Science, students undertake a comprehensive and systematic study of existing and emerging computational systems and theories and gain the skills to develop and build new and cutting edge software systems and products. Students will develop an understanding of how computing solutions are conceptualized, elaborated, and constructed.  The Bachelor of Computer Science provides students with experience in applying this knowledge in designing and developing new solutions to existing and emerging problems.

Focusing on the technological aspects including analytics, cloud computing, computer programming, software engineering, and database systems, students will develop the knowledge, skills and competencies to build a wide range of applications to solve the technological challenges of today and tomorrow.

Students will also develop skills in critical thinking, problem solving, team work and communication through a variety of platforms. Hands-on experiential learning is a key component of this course and students will have access to specialized computer laboratories, the opportunity to study for industry certifications, and to learn from professional industry guest lecturers. Students also have the opportunity to apply for internships and industry based learning placements as part of their course.

Graduates are highly sought-after for employment in a range of areas including software development, robotics, system analytics, business analytics, database development, cognitive computing systems, new technology research, project management, solutions architecture and systems programming.

Bachelor of Games Design and Development Overview

Deakin’s Games Design and Development course provides you with the skills and knowledge to thrive in this dynamic and fast-growing field.

This course enhances your hands-on ability to design and develop computer games ranging in complexity from small interactive apps, larger PC and console based systems and massive multiplayer systems. Through this course you develop an understanding and appreciation for concepts in game design and software technology relevant to games. Topics include game programming, design principles for games, real-time computer graphics and rendering, artificial intelligence, networking multiplayer games, audio/visual systems for creating game art and sound effects, game simulation and modelling, human computer interaction, game production, graphic design, game theory, system analysis and design, software engineering, object-oriented programming, games and society, and application of scientific concepts from computer science and related fields.

Bachelor of I.T. Security Overview

Deakin’s Bachelor of IT Security will provide you with a sound knowledge and understanding of general issues, concepts and practices in IT, particularly in the area of IT security.

You will gain practical and theoretical knowledge in this critical aspect of IT with an emphasis on understanding and assessing the need for IT security in an organizational environment, knowledge of the security solutions available – what they are and how they work – and understanding the risk management, business,  ethical and legal implications for industry practice.

Bachelor of Information Technology Overview

Students undertaking the Bachelor of Information Technology will develop an understanding of the fundamental knowledge and skills that underpin a career as an IT professional handling information technology and digital capability at the enterprise level within organizations but also as professionals leading technological transformation in all sectors of the community.

The course covers IT and its applications in areas such as security, interactive media, computer games, gaming, programming, and cloud computing. Students will gain experience constructing IT solutions to real-world problems in a variety of fields and disciplines, whilst gaining a theoretical understanding and the experience necessary to enable graduates to keep abreast of this rapidly changing field.

You will not only develop a thorough knowledge of the discipline, its theoretical underpinnings and its technical skills, but also develop a body of experience, build useful systems and lead project teams. Through the study of a core set of information technology units common to all Bachelor of Information Technology degrees at Deakin University and the selection of a variety of IT major sequences and elective studies (both IT course-grouped and units from other disciplines) you can tailor your studies to your own interests and specific career aspirations.
