This course uses a software engineering approach to games development, combining study of the technical aspects of games programming, including artificial intelligence, with the principles of project management, quality assurance and organizational management. While focused on developing games software, we provide a general grounding in software engineering to equip you with the breadth of skills to work in any aspect of the Information Technology industry.

Bachelor of Science in Computing in Systems and Networking Overview

Practically every business relies on its ICT network – maintaining systems and launching new ones are critical. This role is the responsibility of the network systems administrator. This could be the perfect course for you if you see yourself in a professional position that requires great attention to detail, a high level of technical capability and the capacity to solve problems and think on your feet.

As network systems administrator, your responsibilities include everything from activating accounts and security controls to installing and configuring routers, servers and switchers. You will also monitor network performance and troubleshoot problems. Our aim is to train systems and network experts who can work in virtually any industry that relies on these key business systems.

We have embedded a series of key skills in the Information Technology program. These include the ability to test and evaluate hardware or software and solve problems with technology; design enterprise networks; secure computer resources; manage digital assets; systems and networking; programming; telecommunications; voice over IP; server management; database management and development; computer forensics; and innovation and teamwork.

The course includes a work placement in year 3. Upon graduation you can progress to the BSc (Hons) in Computing in Systems and Networking.

Bachelor of Science in Computing in Web Development and Creative Media Overview

This program will develop your graphic design skills and technical knowledge of how web pages are created. The programme is focused around the whole process of web development, from requirements analysis to application and database design.

Developing a professional website requires a number of skills: programming code to build the site, scripting to arrange and control data appearance and design/multimedia software to customize and promote the site.

Through this course you will understand how to work with clients, gathering requirements, designing applications, including integration with databases, and the use of multimedia. With the spread of broadband, web designers with skills in multimedia and interactivity will always be in high demand.

BSc (Hons) in Computing Career Opportunities

There is a strong demand for computing graduates both in Ireland and internationally and our new BSc (Hons) in Computing is designed to match that demand. IT Sligo has a strong track record in computing as evidenced by our success in the International Microsoft Imagine Cup.

The four year honours degree will give you a strong foundation in a broad range of computing technologies; including programming, system design, database design, operating systems, mathematics and web design. In later years students are offered the opportunity to choose which areas they would like to study. They will be able to specialize in software development or in systems and networking.

Students will undertake a work placement in the third year. This provides an introduction to the workplace and students then return to fourth year where they consolidate their newly developed skills.

The course content has been designed to equip students with the technological skills employers are seeking. Our graduates are work ready. We have also listened to employers and incorporated soft skills such as team work, project management and presentation skills in our programme.
