In this degree you’ll major in one of four areas:

Software Technology:

  • Programming
  • Software engineering
  • Discrete mathematics

Software technology is about building and using systems for productive and leisure activities, and understanding the principles that underlie such systems. You will focus on algorithms, data structures and the principles of engineering quality software.

Information Systems and Business Analysis:

  • Information systems concepts and issues
  • Information systems for management
  • Information systems audit and assurance

The Information Systems and Business Analysis (IS & BA) major is a cross-disciplinary major that aims to provide graduates with the necessary skills to pursue a career in business information systems. Such a career requires the graduate to understand a wide range of areas related to information systems, information management and information technology from both business and IT perspectives.

Web design and development:

  • Technology that makes the web work
  • Web design principles and practice
  • Web development methodologies

This major delivers sound training in the latest web technologies that are relevant to build client-server web applications. It provides insight into state-of-the-art web design practice and addresses emerging topics such as cloud-computing or the web as a big-data platform.

Data science:

  • Extracting, collecting and processing data
  • Interpreting data via statistical/modelling techniques and data visualization
  • Cloud Computing and Big Data

In the Data Science major, you’ll develop strong numeracy skills and a strong understanding data processing and analysis. Data scientists work on data sets to extract knowledge and identify patterns in order to predict trends. They work at the boundaries of information technology, mathematics and statistics, employing techniques and blending processes from each of these disciplines.

Bachelor of Information Technology – Games Design and Development Overview

Design and create video games and virtual worlds with the Bachelor of Information Technology – Games Design and Development course. This is the only degree in New South Wales that develops both the technical skills to create video games as well as a critical understanding of video games.

This video games degree provides a thorough grounding in software design and development skills that’s equivalent to the standard Bachelor of Information Technology.

However, this is not your average IT degree – it also includes two types of specialist video games units:

  • Those covering practical applications of IT development skills to game development projects.
  • Those providing a more critical approach to video games as designs and cultural media products.

Entry Requirements

Completion of High School Diploma.  Recommended: HSC Information Processes and Technology and/or HSC Software Design and Development; or international equivalents.
