Dr. Kay Hartwig, Faculty of Education at Griffith University,  has been an integral part of KOM Consultants and Canadians studying abroad for Teacher Education.  We are proud of Kay for being recongized for her outstanding work, dedication and achievements for promoting the Faculty of Education in Canada.  KOM Consultants has sent thousands of students to Griffith for Teacher Education in Australia thanks to the efforts on Dr. Hartwig. 

Dr Kay Hartwig from the School of Education and Professional Studies and Dr Leigh Kirwan from the School of Languages and Linguistics were recognised for their outstanding achievements in promoting the University internationally at the second Griffith Internationalisation Awards at the Multi-faith Centre, Nathan last week. 

More than 100 people attended the awards ceremony, including 40 international agents visiting Australia as part of the Griffith International Partner Week.

Vice Chancellor, Professor Ian O’Connor presented the two awards. There were 18 nominees in the category of Most Outstanding Contribution to Short Term Global Mobility Program (taking Griffith to the world) with eight of the 18 AEL staff.

The award was presented to Dr Leigh Kirwan for his work in leading Japanese Language and Cultural Tours. Students in the program participate in a one-month intensive language and culture program. More than 400 Griffith students have participated in the study tours over the past 20 years.

Dr Kirwan is Gold Coast Japanese program convenor, program convenor of the Diploma of Languages and BA in Languages and Linguistics. He is also president of the Modern Language Teachers’ Association of Queensland Gold Coast Branch.

The second category was the Most Outstanding Contribution to overall internationalisation. There were eight nominees for this prestigious award, two nominees were AEL staff. The Vice Chancellor presented this award to Dr Kay Hartwig for her outstanding overall contribution to the international business activities for the university, in particular international relations and student recruitment in Canada.

Dr Hartwig is Director, Internationalisation and Strategic Engagement, Senior Lecturer, School of Education and Professional Studies, Coordinator and Lecturer, Music/Music Education, Program Convenor, Graduate Diploma in Education – Secondary (International Students), Master of Teaching – Primary (Gold Coast campus), Master of Teaching – Secondary (Gold Coast campus) and Bachelor of Arts in Education (Mt Gravatt campus).
