Students wanting to work in speech pathology, speech or hearing technology, or audiology? If so, the Bachelor of Speech, Hearing and Language Sciences at Macquarie University is the most direct pathway into postgraduate study for both language and speech pathology, as well as audiology.

Macquarie University’s Speech Pathology students will study a range of speech and hearing topics including:

  • how people create speech sounds using the vocal apparatus
  • the way the ear responds or sometimes fails to respond to different kinds of sounds
  • how computers can be used in speech analysis

Along with speech and hearing, Macquarie University’s Speech Pathology students will study linguistics, psychology and biology. Students can specialize in one or more areas including:

  • audiology
  • speech and language pathology
  • speech research

Professional Recognition

If a Macquarie Speech Pathology students wishes to qualify for clinical practice in either audiology or speech and language pathology, students will need to do further (postgraduate) study in order to gain the appropriate professional accreditation. Masters degrees in audiology and speech pathology are both offered at Macquarie University.

Speech Pathology graduates at Macquarie who apply for licensing in Canada, UK or the USA will be required to provide details of their program of studies to the relevant bodies and sit a licensing examination.
