Overview

The University of Canberra provides a contemporary pharmacy program with smaller class sizes to facilitate individual learning and relevant professional experiences. Academics provide supportive academic leadership informed by their currency of clinical practice. Many of the staff are leaders within the pharmacy profession and actively engage with the profession to seek innovative future roles for graduates.

University of Canberra Bachelor of Pharmacy Overview

University of Canberra Bachelor of Pharmacy is a four year program that was introduced in 2013. This program prepares students for a career in pharmacy within a variety of national and international practice settings (community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, clinical consultant pharmacy, technical consultant pharmacy, government, research, education and industry). Students will acquire foundation knowledge and skills in basic and life sciences and learn how to apply this to the clinical reasoning, treatment and evaluation skills required by a pharmacist. The curriculum is evidence based and research led.

The Bachelor of Pharmacy course at Canberra involves course work, laboratories and clinical practice over four years. Pharmacy students are required to complete all of the subjects listed in the course structure and are normally expected to complete all of one year’s work before enrolling in a later-year subject. In each year of the Bachelor of Pharmacy program at University of Canberra, subjects are usually co-requisites for each other and so sequencing of units is essential. Foundation year science and pharmacy subjects are prerequisites for subsequent study in later years in the Bachelor of Pharmacy program at University of Canberra in Australia.

Canberra Pharmacy School

Clinical Work Experience

All students in University of Canberra Bachelor of Pharmacy course are required to complete clinical practice placement in blocks of time, often outside of teaching time. These clinical practice placements are essential to the program. Prior to commencing clinical practice, all University of Canberra Bachelor of Pharmacy students need to present a complete immunization schedule as a requirement of the ACT and NSW health departments. All students are required to undergo an Australian Federal Police Record check prior to undertaking clinical placement in the ACT, and a NSW Police check before undertaking placement in NSW. All University of Canberra Bachelor of Pharmacy students will be registered as students with the Pharmacy Board of Australia after admission to the Bachelor of Pharmacy course.

Entry Requirements

  • Entry into the Bachelor of Pharmacy program and University of Canberra for students holding High School Diploma:  minimum grade average of 65%.
  • Assumed knowledge in Mathematics and either Biology or Human Movement, and Physics or Chemistry.
  • All other qualifications are assessed individually

Professional Recognition

Professional Recognition

The University of Canberra Bachelor of Pharmacy course has been accredited (with conditions) by the Australian Pharmacy Council (APC).

It is the student’s responsibility to contact their local credentialing body for re-entry pathways.  The Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) is the national certification body for the pharmacy profession in Canada. Upon returning, students must go through an evaluation procedure with the PEBC.
