University of South Australia Master of Occupational Therapy MOT Overview

Occupational Therapy (OT) is an exciting and growing health profession. Occupational Therapists work collaboratively with people to become who they want to be and overcome barriers and limitations. These can be caused by injury or illness, psychological or emotional disabilities, delays in development, effects of aging, or environmental or societal barriers. Occupational Therapists play an important role in helping clients achieve their goals, allowing them to actively participate in society.

Over 40 years of experience in providing high quality occupational therapy education has allowed the University of South Australia to develop essential industry links and graduates who are in demand.

The Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) Graduate Entry program at University of South Australia provides an opportunity to develop the necessary skills, knowledge and attributes to become an evidence-based occupational therapy practitioner who can work across a diverse range of practice areas.

Within this two year (72 unit) Master of Occupational Therapy program at University of South Australia, Occupational Therapy students will cover the knowledge, skills and attributes required to become an Occupational Therapist, including at least 1000 hours of field practice experience. Content within University of South Australia’s Occupational Therapy degree covers the major theoretical approaches and skills occupational therapists use to work with a broad range of clients with medical and psychological conditions that impact on occupational performance of people across the lifespan. Students are also required to attend a mandatory 3-day intensive orientation program at University of South Australia to ensure they are adequately prepared for the accelerated nature of the program.

Clinical Work Experience

University of South Australia delivers an Occupational Therapy program which offers at least 1000 hours of field practice experience.

Entry Requirements

Applicants are required to have:

  • completed, and conferred within the past 10 years, a recognized higher education program at Bachelor degree level or higher from a recognized higher education institution; and
  • a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5 (credit average) in the program; and
  • successfully completed the following prerequisite courses from a recognized university:
    • equivalent of 4.5 unit course of Human Anatomy; and
    • equivalent of 4.5 unit course of Human Physiology; and
    • equivalent of 4.5 unit course of either Human Psychology or Sociology/Anthropology; and
    • equivalent of 4.5 unit course of Research Methodologies.

The Master of Occupational Therapy at University of South Australia is accredited by Occupational Therapy Australia. This program is accredited by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
