ABOUT SETU

Ireland’s South East is experiencing a period of significant change through a rapid population increase, an economy that is diversifying in the light of shifting national, European and global environments, and a changing socio-cultural landscape marked by increased diversity, new patterns of population distribution and a new demographic profile.

The South East Institutes of Technology in Carlow and in Waterford are committed to the creation of an engaged, ambitious and proactive multi-campus Technological University of international standing which will be a key component of the infrastructure required to drive sustainable regional economic and social development.

It will provide leadership as the cohesive force at the centre of knowledge, research and innovation in the region and will also facilitate an external focus allowing the region to capitalize on other economic drivers, nationally and internationally. It will cultivate future generations of active and engaged citizens across the South East and will be a driver of social inclusion, social justice and of cultural and artistic activity in the coming decades. We are creating the South East Technological University (SETU).

An interesting aspect of the institute is that it is the only third level institute in Ireland to have a Computer Games Development course which was actually developed in conjunction with Microsoft. It is also one of the few Irish third level institutes to offer a “higher” degree in Industrial Design, generally seen as a continental European and American subject of study.

Campuses

Multiple Campuses, One University

South East Technological University has ambitious plans for the future.

We are merging campuses in Waterford, Carlow, Wexford, Wicklow and Kilkenny into an institution that brings investment, ideas and opportunity to each community. We are creating a Technological University that will serve more than 18,000 learners, and employ more than 2,000 staff.

Based on your preference and course of study, you will find yourself on a campus that provides community and collaboration. We want to create an environment which is welcoming and transformative for local and international students of all ages and backgrounds, as well as staff, researchers and partners.  This means providing exceptional facilities, as well as support for students with many different needs, including financial support, medical assistance, career advice and counselling.
We are also developing a full programme of extra-curricular activities, including sports teams, societies and volunteering groups.
