Australia: Tuition, Cost of Living, and Other Costs

The cost of obtaining an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Australia compares quite favorably when compared to the United States, Canada, or United Kingdom. Moreover, degree transfer options in Australia will frequently permit students to graduate sooner, thus entering the workforce ahead of schedule. Generalized Bachelor degrees can be obtained in 3 years, with specialized Bachelor degrees in 4 years. Masters programs typically range between 1 to 1 ½ years in length. What this means for our KOM students articulating acedemic credit, is an opportunity to either
(i) enter the workforce early; or
(ii) earn both a Bachelors and Masters degree in the same amount of time it would take to earn a Bachelors degree in the United States… perhaps quicker if the local program is impacted (aka over-subscribed).

Most Australian Universities have two intakes per year. The academic year starts in February and runs through June, with the second semester running between July to November.

TUITION FEES  vary depending on the degree and institution. However, the following chart is estimate provided by the Australian Government… Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (www.studyinaustralia.gov.au):

  • Bachelors Degree – Non Lab Based AUD $16,000 to AUD $22,000 per year
    – such as arts, business, economics and law
  • Bachelors Degree – Lab Based AUD $19,000 to AUD $25,000 per year
    – such as science and engineering
  • Graduate Certificates & Diplomas AUD $11,000 to AUD $20,000 per year
  • Masters and Doctorial Degrees AUD $17,000 to AUD $28,000 per year
